I started my fitness journey six years ago, competing as a powerlifter, breaking multiple records in four different states (ME, MA, NH, WA). After returning from my deployment to Eastern Europe a few months ago, I decided to try a new fitness journey...CrossFit. I learned about Hooligan CrossFit from my girlfriend, who had a lifting meet there and said it was a fantastic facility. Being skeptical of the sport, my doubts were immediately put to rest by the excellent coaches. They genuinely care about the members' progress and ensure they get everything out of each class. Hooligan also has flexible class times for people who work long hours, like a lot of military members. The evening class allows me to leave the base after work and still be able to make it on time.
I never thought I would like to "train" in a gym but Hooligan CrossFit has completely changed my mind. In the last three months I have lost 20lbs and am stronger than at any other time in my life. I find every class and every trainer are different but always super challenging, and the variety of workouts keeps me invested in maintaining a consistent motivation to show up and work hard. The trainers are ALWAYS so encouraging, and offering modifications when needed. I love that everyone knows each other’s names and motivates each other. Besides, being a positive place for me to work on my fitness goals my kids also very much enjoy the kids room!
I started CrossFit in 2015 and have been with Hooligan CrossFit since they opened in 2017. CrossFit has been the most challenging but rewarding thing I have ever done, and I loved it from the very beginning. I learned I was capable of so many things I hadn’t ever thought possible, challenged myself to new heights and crushed so many goals. And as someone with anxiety, especially in social settings, I was very happy to find a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive community where over the years I have not only made some wonderful friends but have crafted a passion for all things weightlifting and CrossFit. It’s fulfilling and rewarding and just the thing my body, mind, and soul need. Without a doubt, it’s my happy place!
